And so we arrive at the last weekend of July

And one more month of this so-called Summer of 2009. I'm thinking that September and October are going to be simply gorgeous, we may even have what they call an Indian summer otherwise in January.

I'm still submitting for work, for a possible recurring gig for a new show taping in NYC. That would be something! I continue to look and beat the bushes for work.

rain rain go away

Early this morning, probably around 2 or 3 in the AM, it was thundering right above my head. It just got dark again about a half hour ago and it's starting to rain again. A call was put out to cancel the work that was to be done today. I just heard a faint rumbling...thunder. This is a day to hide under the covers and rest. I realized I'd been going pretty non-stop the past several days.

I'm thrilled I have a gig later in the week. There's a sense of release and relief when I get these confirmed. There has been some grumbling online for those who haven't found work in weeks, and I'm curious as to why. Maybe it's just simply they don't have the 'look' these casting people want, and other times, I think it's simply because they have been deemed by someone as unprofessional.

When I go to work, I do what I'm told, with enthusiasm and with a smile on my face. I don't grimace, bitch, or crack jokes about what else I could be doing. I'm there to work, and the pay is what the pay is -- I knew what it was when I took the job so I can't complain.

I think it's starting to catch up with certain people. Plus, the other factor is that a lot of new background players have signed up, due to job loss, so these new faces are going to get preferential treatment. Lucky for me, I have supportive people around me so I don't go into a nose dive every time I don't get a gig. I gently remind casting people I'm around and alive, and let it go at that. I don't take it personally or worse publicly whine about it. Because whether we like it or not, we are guns for hire, we are freelancers, and we live in a feast or famine kind of lifestyle. The actor's life is not for the faint of heart.

Feeling tired yet good

Waiting in yet another holding in BG land...

The Samsung gig went well. Although check-in was at 8:30 AM, we didn't get to actual set until 2 PM or so. They fed us a light snack for the morning and then for lunch they served pizza which was cool. Did OK until the final half hour, as I was in heels and the fronts of my toes were starting to hurt. We managed to get through crossing the street several times near Times Square and high-fiving each other as we passed each other on the crosswalk. That was the whole scene.

We had fun people in the group who helped keep the energy pumped up. It was good.
There was this cute guy there but it seems he was also a charmer to a lot of the women there who seemed to be asking for his number. We were given a check when we finished the day. That was a nice ending. I just found out a BG friend will be working it tomorrow. Darn! I put the check aside. I will leave it for when I run my errands. Tomorrow seems to be a quiet day. I have yet to unpack the rest of my clothes but I am sooo tired yet content. I continue to look online for work. Called and found the casting message hadn't been updated since Sunday.

Realized the phone number had been changed for another casting place, so took that down and updated my phone. Trying to decide whether I will work another gig -- I just may, but I need to know the transportation details. Will call tomorrow and find out the deal.

Go-see today

Yep, those are a lot of anxious fun. Today was for a potential pharmaceutical gig. I go in, say hi, fill out the one page application, attach my headshot (wrote my email and phone on it in case they decide to contact me) and the photog took about five to seven shots of me and that was it. I put my jacket back on along with my hat (it was raining on and off today) and making sure I had my purse and phone, asked when a decision would be made, and was told by the end of the week -- assuming next week, since I wasn't sure if I heard right...besides, would a decision turnaround happen in two days? Hmmm.

There was only one other person there today so there was no waiting time, I pretty much was in and out within five minutes. OK. We'll see what happens. Moving on...

Quiet day but productive

I had been promising myself to pick up some soil to start the herbal container garden. I finally pushed myself out the door today and kept my focus, despite the grey and rain, to pick up fresh soil from the store. Got a check in the mail today from my 'non-work' on Mercy. Fast check, despite the disappointment.

After finishing off my errands, I got home to check my email and phone and then wandered onto IMDB and updated my page, it's been some time since I've done so. This brought me some positive feelings, because I felt a sense of accomplishment on all the background work I've done. I updated several pages, so I'm feeling good now.

Tomorrow I have Easter Sunday dinner with friends and family. I count myself lucky and blessed to be able to do so. I'm also bringing over a couple of bottles of wine, so it'll be all good.

I've been cheating a bit with my diet but will end my vacation from it starting Monday. Summer's just around the corner and I'm looking to be more marketable.
